I found an intresting article today about babies & paicifiers and not only that but, Babies & Allergies! This is a rather old article but it did bring me to this post. Please bare with me as I share. For years now Drs have told parent that babies Do Not get allergies. Well I am a person with allergies, I highly believe that babies do. Over the last 3 1/2 years I have finally had Dr's agree with me, that babies can have allergies. While it took medical research to prove it still are denying that babies can not have allergies.
At 9 mos, my son had a fiberal seizure. This was caused by sickeness and high fever. It could of been avoided if the Dr on call would of called back after I called the 3rd time in 30 minutes, but he waited for several hours and my sons fever rose to 105 and he started having a seizure.
To make a long story short, my husband and I rushed him to the hospital and met the ambulance in route and he was in the hospital for a week with all kinds of test run on him. He caught a bacteria infection on top of the infection he had while in the hospital and then got better to come home to a whopper of problems.
You see my son never had problems until after the siezure. HMMM! Not sure I can explain that one. Some how over the course of time he developed all kinds of problems. His immune system was extremely weak leaving him volunrable to sickeness alot. He is improved alot since then with alot of help from a great Dr that I miss tremendously. She has since then been promoted. :(
She was the Dr who happened upon my sons allergies. You see after his hospital visit as he came home he would have all kinds of allergy symptoms. They were so bad that I was sanitizing everything several times a day. I mean scrubbing until my hands were raw. UGH!
Hand sanitzers through out the house and soap everywhere. People coming in were told first thing to sanitize their hands. It was overboard sanitizing in my house for nearly a year. We found out that our son was allergic to our Dogs fur, allergic to seasonal allergies, allergic to dust and in some cases it would cause him to go into allergies with a cold on top of it or Bronchitis or Pnuemonia. My Dr couldnt believe what all was going on with him. She reffered us to an allergist for testing and although a lot was his allergies for the most part it was a weaken immune system that left him suffering from something.
Which leads me to this article I found. Today many Drs believe that babies can have some sort of allergies. Maybe not to the extent of what most of us face, they are seeing that babies can in fact have allergies.
The article I found today is a rather old article (estimated from 1990's) from before Drs believed any baby could have an allergy. In this aticle it does warn that there are cases of babies suffering allergic reactions from pacifiers. So parents please be advised that if your child has a passy and may have some sort of reactions you have noticed it may be best to consult with your physician.
Today babies have been known to have some common allergies as well as some unusual allergic reactions.
