Why The Bible?

Why The Bible?
  • What is the bible?
  • Is the bible important?
  • What is the purpose of the bible?
  • Should I read the bible every day?
  • Why the bible?
These are questions at some point I believe we all have asked at the beginning or even during our walk with Christ. Look around! Everywhere we look there is a believer some where near by. Whether we realize it or not, there are more believers that lag on the word of God. Honestly, it does not matter if they are verteran believers or new believers. In recent studies today, a vast majority of new coming Christians are clueless about Gods Word. Over half of these new coming believers are our younger generations. Why the bible? It troubles me when I hear a believer say, Why should I read the bible? I shake my head and inside I am thinking, I did not just hear this. Let me see I can think of a lot of reasons why you should read the bible:
  • How about because it is the LIVING Word of God!
  • How about because it is a chance to truly know Him and all He is about!
  • How about because it is DIRECTIONS for our every thing in life!
  • How about because it is a chance to be inspired and encouraged daily!
  • How about because it not only is a chance to know more about God, His plans, His Wisdome, His blessings, His Son, His LOVE... But it is a chance to feed our spiritual man and grow in Him and closer to Him.
  • How about because His word will equip us with all the tools we need for daily living and resist the enemy.
  • How about because, THEIR IS POWER IN THE WORD OF GOD!
  • How about because it records the accounts of all God has created, has done, is doing and is planning to do!
  • How about just read it because we are instructed to do so!
Across the country today and even across the globe, churches are lagging in the word of God. Preaching has been watered down and merely revamped to please the secular world. Encouraging believers both veteran and new coming to the faith, to dive in and read the word is minimal to none. What is happening in the church and around the globe is mind boggling as we are seeing days become numbered. Recently I had words with a particular individual and I was broadsided with a discussion we got in and the comment that this particular individual made. This particular individual began their discussion like this, "Jesus is my best friend. I can lean on him for anything. I talk to him everyday and I know when He talks back to me." I said, Praise God, Isn't it wonderful to have a great friend we can call on any time, day or night. The discussion was taken a step further and it was brought to my attention that this particular individual truly believed that the Lord answered them a specific reply to a specific request made known to the Lord, But the answer was simply a reply that satisfied the want of this particular individual. As I sat listening to the reply, It was made known to me that their reply was not merely a reply from the Lord, but more of a reply of a selfish individual that didn't want to wait on the Lords reply, didn't want to except the Lords reply had it came, wasn't considering the hurt or concern for the other indviduals that were involved, simply because the whole conversation with this individual was all about them constantly making their request known to the Lord and the Lord complying to giving them what they requested everytime. Mind you I note, This individual seldom made time to seek the Lord for the answer because and I quote this comment,
" I do not have to read the word of God or seek Him for the answers because He talks to me and I know this because I hear him. The only time I feel the need to read the word or feel led to read the word is when I go through hard times! "
(Jaw dropped) - All I can say is, DID I SERIOUSLY HEAR THIS? Ephesians 4 talks about our relationship with our heavenly father, our expectations, the new life we receive in Christ. Let me ask this, If we do not read the word of God daily, How is our spirit being built up in Christ if we are not learning about him. By accepting Christ we are accepting God and HIS word. This means we need to learn more about him, allow him to feed us with HIS knowledge through the word of God. If we are not daily building our self up in Gods word, How then can we be built up and equipped for the trials we face ahead? How then can we witness and share the testimony of Christ if we are not reading ourself about all God has spoken through the Living Word - Our Bible? This is very troubling when I hear a believer or more at that say, We do not need to be in the word of God daily. Only when we are being attacked or going through hardship, then shall we turn to the word of God. That is not a relationship friends, That is man using our heavenly father at times we are in panic because we dont need him any other time until we face trials, pain or fear. 1 Peter 2:1-3 - Understand that as a new coming Christian, we are merely babes in Christ. We know very little about God and all He is offering us. Like a new born baby that suckles from the bossom of its momma, we as new believers are babes in Christ that crave spiritual milk. Gods word (The Bible) is our living supply of nutrition to our spiritual being. We need the word to help us grow from a babe in Christ to a strong Grounded Man/Woman of God. Not only it the word our daily supply of food, but the word of God helps us to more like Christ in all we do. We should be a reflection of Christ not a reflection of ourself or the secular world. 2 Timothy 3:16 - ALL Scripture IS God Breathed! How any professing believer can claim to have a relationship with the father and NOT know His word is just mind boggling. Friends, get in to the word and read about the one you call friend. The Proverbs gives us insight on wisdom and embracing wisdom. 2 Timothy 2:15 I am troubled indeed when I hear believers say, we do not need to know the word until such and such happens.
"Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires."
Gods Word is ALIVE! It is the same, Yesterday, Today and Forever. If you say you are a believer and lack the knoweldge of His word, your the hypocrite that is spoken about on numerous accounts through out the bible! Friends, I can go on and post scripture after scripture. But there is one simple point I am aiming to make. If you are a professing Christian believer and you lack the knowledge of Gods Word, I encourage you now to get in and begin learning. Without the knowledge of the word you will not be equipped with the daily tools you need to help you through all the will come your way. A relationship is not a one way streak, where you do all of the talking and everything gets done your way and only your way. With out Gods wisdom, discipline, encouragement, love, patience With out God and the knowledge of Him, you are and always will be where you were when you first started down this path hearing about this new found faith in Christ Jesus and a loving heavenly father. I encourage you today - If you dont read your word daily.. No! I challenge you to day, there is not time like the present: Devote at least 15 minutes of your day to reading your bible. You can begin by asking the Lord to direct you or start with the New Testament in John or begin from the very beginnging. What ever the choice, it is extremely important that you make time for the Word and to have a relationship with the father. Remember a relationship is a two way travel. You speak and listen and He speaks and listens.

Have a blessed week!
